Four months of training. One percent of change.
I'm a biomedical ontologist and translation scientist. That means I study clinical research deeply and make those insights available to AI and to everyday people. It's my way of changing the world, by making consequential information accessible.
I've always had a bit of a midsection, but I was always considered skinny. In my clothes, I was skinny. Naked, I was, well, fat. I remember vividly being in college, making out with a guy. He starts kissing me all over. Then he lifts my shirt, hesitates a bit, unbuttons my pants, gasps, and goes “you're fat?” He was completely bewildered.
I couldn't even be upset, because the peculiarity of my body astounded me too. Luckily he sincerely liked me and wasn't a douche, so he carried on traversing my body with kisses. That moment was strange. I accepted myself a little more because he did, and I also resented my body for not matching my magnetic presence.
Fast forward to 2025 and I decide to do a Hyrox. I'd worked out for over a decade with seven different trainers, even a petites only training program. I did Herbalife, and that was the only time in my life I had abs. The moment I got off it, my body reverted.
So I figured I needed a more aggressive stimulus. I signed up for Hyrox Singles and trained hard for four months, hitting my protein, getting my steps, sleeping, hydrating, lifting. Race day came and I knocked it out of the park, penalty or two aside.
After four months, training alongside body builders, I saw a one percent decrease in body fat and a one percent increase in muscle mass. I was astonished.
The first place I looked was my genetics. Then my gut. My gut unlocked a host of insights. I developed my own gut healing and inflammation protocol in partnership with a longevity clinic and a nurse practitioner.
When my gut started to heal, my nausea went away, my brain stopped feeling inflamed, and my nervous system finally relaxed. That's when I started seeing body composition changes, month over month.
Better nutrition wasn't the answer. I needed to reset and restore so that nutrition could be impactful. That's the approach we take at Skinnyfatology.
